Falesco Vitiano 2007

Winemaker: Riccardo Cotarella
Grapes: 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet and 34% Sangiovese
Region: Umbria, Italy

Falesco winery was established in 1979 with a goal to rediscover and enhance the value of Lazio’s traditional grape varietals. Riccardo, one of Italy’s finest winemakers needed just few years to create a whole list of success with his wines.
Located just 50 miles from Rome, Falesco’s vineyards are situated in the most prestigious areas around the Umbrian-Lazian border.

After the harvest grapes are immediately transported to the winery and fermented in stainless steel. The winery is using the most advanced wine technology to achieve the best possible quality of their wines. Vitiano is then aged for 2 months in oak barrels and then, unfiltered, bottled.

Tasting notes:
This young, powerful wine has a beautiful aroma of dark cherries and spices. Dark ruby wine is best drank young – that’s when the fruit is expressed the most. Rich, jammy and spicy on the palate, with just enough acidity to make this bargain perfectly balanced. Falesco Vitiano has a character, harmony and a long, pleasant finish. Attributes that are more common in wines twice the price.

Dry – Off dry – Medium sweet – Sweet
Light – Medium – Full body
No oak – Aged in oak
Retail price: under $10.00

Ideal food pairing:
Anything Italian, Mamma’s Meatballs, sausage with peppers, hamburgers on the grill, medium aged cheeses
